Subject: AoFA Comment - Resuscitation Changes
This October, new CPR changes will be announced by resuscitation councils throughout the world including the UK Resuscitation Council. The AoFA will be producing printed literature and CDs for you and your clients indicating what training will be required to update their skills.

AoFA Resus Changes Conference

The AoFA and the FirstAidCafe will soon be announcing our Resus Changes Conference to inform first aiders and trainers on both the changes and the rationale behind them.  (Proposed conference date: November)

There is a considerable amount of speculation about what the changes actually are. However, at this point in time, changes are not fixed or known.

Until the changes are announced, the current CPR procedures should be trained and likewise performed when carrying out CPR.
The AoFA recommend that trainers should inform course delegates that:
  • changes in resuscitation may occur later this year.
  • any changes in first aid and resuscitation will be covered on their yearly Refresher course.
  • current procedures should be performed until trained or informed otherwise.

Further, the AoFA also recommend that the trainer should not discuss potential changes with course delegates as this may confuse and dilute the importance of the current CPR procedures.
